1/15/2022 0 Comments I Believe in the Magic of BirthWhat do I mean by “the magic of birth”? I like to think of pregnancy as akin to being a high priestess. communing with the divine. She has strong intuition and is recognized as a wise leader. She communicates with the divine and is shown favor. The womb is a place of creation–if that’s not magic, then I don’t know what is. If you’ve ever read Ina May Gaskin’s “Ina May’s guide to Childbirth”*, you’ll see that a common theme among the birth stories is the empowerment that the mothers felt while giving birth. Across every culture throughout history, there is one thread that links them all–every person has made the journey earthside from the creation of their mother’s womb. How is that not the most powerful magic that there is? As birthing people, we hold the power of creation within ourselves. *I recognize the problematic statements that Ms. Gaskin has made, and certain allegations against her. I am not advocating for her, only the powerful birth stories from her clients.
